Young people in grades 10 to 12 got a taste of studying at HTWK Leipzig in mid-October 2022
During the Saxon autumn holidays from 17 to 21 October 2022, pupils in grades 10 to 12 were able to find out about studying at HTWK Leipzig and gain their first interesting insights into the various courses on offer.
With just under 80 registrations, the 2022 Summer University started with a new concept and gave young people from Leipzig, the Leipzig region and Erfurt and Dresden, for example, the chance to get to know the faculties, students and teaching staff at HTWK Leipzig up close.
Until 2019, the holiday university was designed as a five-day taster course and offered all registered participants an insight into the degree programmes of the seven faculties at HTWK Leipzig with information events, guided tours and workshops. The concept has been constantly changing since 2020, adapting to the requirements and wishes of young people.
Since then, the holiday university has offered individual, selected events on specific days. This year, pupils were able to register for just one day, depending on their interests, or get to know different study programmes on several days.
Claudia Bothe, organiser and member of the study orientation team at HTWK Leipzig, asked around during the 2022 Summer University and asked some of the participants what they thought of the Summer University:
☰ Kenny, Year 12:"The programmes were very good, they were interactive and informative to the right degree. Do it again next year!"
Simon, Year 12:"The dialogue with professors and students was great. One small idea for change: shorten the 1-hour break a little. All in all, 5/5 stars."
Paul, Year 11:"I was really able to expand my idea of studying; the interactive workshops brought me into contact with the study institutions and I also experienced what it's like to sit in a lecture for 1.5 hours. Top!"

Claudia Bothe: "We are delighted with the great response to this year's holiday academy. The days on the topic of "Construction and Architecture" and on Monday on the topic of "Basics & Orientation" were the most quickly booked out, but all other programmes were also quickly booked. Every year, I am thrilled that some of the prospective students spend an entire free holiday week at the university to think about their future. You can clearly feel this interest at the events: there are lots of questions, good discussions and a very relaxed atmosphere overall. The fact that participants can decide individually whether they only want to book a specific day on the subject of engineering or whether they prefer to get an all-round view and take part every day has also proved very successful."
