Crossing borders and growing beyond yourself: study abroad and internships in social work programmes
Historically, social work has always been international - the problems it responds to, the people it tries to support, the disciplines and ideas it incorporates do not stop at national borders. We therefore see our students' stays abroad during their social work studies as a central part of their personal and professional development. This often deepens and broadens their own perspective on themselves, the world and their profession, boosts their motivation for their studies and practice and can lead to new dialogues in new contexts.
We therefore provide as much support as possible to all students on Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes who would like to take advantage of this opportunity to spend time abroad as part of their studies (study abroad and/or internship). A network of partner universities with which we maintain co-operations in and outside Europe is available to you for this purpose. On this page you will find an overview of our partner universities as well as some photos and reports from LFB students who have been abroad ("Postcards from abroad"). Further information can be found on the website of the International Office of HTWK Leipzig.
The Teaching and Research Department of Social Sciences particularly recommends the third (study) and fourth semester (internship) of the Bachelor's degree programme for a stay abroad. Together with the International Office of the HTWK, the Coordinator for International Relations of the Department of Social Sciences organises an information event on studying abroad every semester. In addition to information about studying and internships abroad, there is also room for individual questions. Please take note of the notices informing you about the dates of the event. The coordinator will also be happy to advise you personally during regular office hours.
