Workstations in the studios
PC workstations are available to architecture students throughout the studios.
These computers can be used to work on projects, for research purposes or to send print jobs.
As a general rule, students should notsave their data locally on the computers.
It is better to use your server-based "home directory" or your own external storage media.
Computer pool Li419 | Principles of use
This pool has 20 workstations on which the applications ArchiCAD, Rhino, Lumion, MS Office and Adobe CC are installed.
In addition to the courses, students should have access to powerful technology here in order to be able to create project work.
The should be contacted in the event of technical problems. When making a service request, please make sure to correctly name the affected devices and provide your contact details and, if applicable, the time when the problem occurred.
Printing technology
Architecture students have access to several large-format plotters (Canon iPF785) and colour laser multifunctional devices (printing, scanning, up to DIN A3 format) in the printing centre (Li416) on the architecture floor.
All print jobs are billed via a print account.
The deposit machine only accepts banknotes (€5 | €10 | €20 | €50) if the account does not show a negative balance. Anyone with a negative balance must first clear it. Appointment request by mail.
A deposit machine is available in the room (Li416).
The printing and graphics centre is under video surveillance.
BIMcloud [ArchiCAD] and ArchiCAD updates
The Architecture degree programme has an ArchiCAD BIMcloud.
This allows projects to be worked on together as a team. Authentication is required to connect to the server. The server can be accessed from ArchiCAD (within the university network*) via the following address
http://fas-bimclmgr.htwk-leipzig.de:18008
The projects on the server should always be saved locally (own storage medium). The projects are deleted at the end of the semester without further notification to ensure capacity for the following semester
GRAPHISOFT offers updates of the current version several times a year.
As we also have to install these updates on the computers in the studios and in the pool, as well as the servers, we specify when the update can be installed on your own computers, as otherwise there may be problems with teamwork and server access.
* External access to the server is possible via VPN connection.
Responsibilities
Hardware and software
The computers on the architecture floor (pool and studio) are administered by the IT Service Centre.
If you have hardware problems or problems with logging in, please contact the IT Service Centre.
The software on the computers is also installed by the Centre.
If you have any application-related problems or questions, please send us a service e-mail or contact the responsible teaching staff.
Printing technology
Printing technology is available to all architecture students in the Printing and Graphics Centre and the studios. A student assistant supports us with the ongoing supply of paper and ink, as well as with general questions.
Please contact Prof. Rambow or Timo Kretschmer if you have any problems with billing or general organisational questions. Please also use the central service e-mail.
General questions on IT topics
The IT Service Centre provides extensive information on its website.
Here you can find out everything you need to know about your access data(identity management), WLAN, VPN and the like. Please check first whether you can find the right answers here.
Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching
Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching (formerly Microsoft Imagine Premium or Dreamspark/MSDN AA) is a subscription agreement between Microsoft and universities with a technical focus.
As part of this agreement, students can purchase licences for various Microsoft products for the duration of their studies, including operating systems, developer and design tools servers, workstation and server applications for use in research and teaching.
Unfortunately, the standard components of Microsoft Office are not included in the contract. However, students can purchase a version of Office 365 at a reasonable price via Microsoft's"Home Use Programme".
A Microsoft account is required to use "Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching". This can be created during the registration process if necessary. If you already have an account with Imagine or Dreamspark, you should register with Microsoft using the email address stored there or add this address to an existing Microsoft account.
Before using the tools for the first time, you must verify your authorisation to use them; this is done via a confirmation link in an email sent to your HTWK email address.
